Quality of Life Assessment

Deciding how to care for an elderly or chronically ill pet is one of the hardest parts of sharing life with animals. At Your Pet’s Mobile Vet, we offer gentle, in-home quality of life assessments across Adelaide to help guide you through these decisions with empathy, clarity, and support.

Understanding Quality of Life

Quality of life is about more than just how long a pet lives—it’s about how comfortable, happy, and connected they are in day-to-day life. Pain, mobility, appetite, breathing, toileting, and emotional engagement all factor into whether a pet is coping or beginning to struggle.

Our role is to assess these areas in a familiar, stress-free setting—so you can make confident, compassionate choices with the full picture in mind.

When to Consider a Quality of Life Assessment

A quality of life consult may be helpful if:

  • Your pet has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness

  • You’re unsure if they’re in pain or still enjoying life

  • There’s been a recent decline in mobility, appetite, or hygiene

  • You’re considering end-of-life care but want to be sure it's the right time

  • You need guidance on what to expect and how to plan ahead

We also work with families who just want reassurance—they’re doing the right thing, or that their pet’s decline isn’t being overlooked.

What Happens During the Visit

During a home visit, we’ll:

Talk through your pet’s medical history, behaviour, and day-to-day routines

Gently examine your pet’s body condition, comfort, and mobility

Discuss any changes in appetite, toileting, sleep, or interactions

Help you understand whether your pet is in pain or distress

Offer guidance on management options, palliative care, or next steps

Supporting You Through Difficult Choices

These are emotional conversations, and we don’t rush them. Whether you’re hoping to maintain comfort for as long as possible or wondering if euthanasia may be approaching, we’ll guide you with empathy and honesty. If euthanasia does become the kindest option, we can help you plan it in a peaceful, dignified way—at home, with you by their side.
